How To Care For Your Artificial Grass

There’s no doubt that artificial or synthetic grass has its advantages. Firstly it always looks good, no matter what the weather (there’s no unsightly brown areas where sun damage has occurred). In addition it doesn’t need to be cut, watered, fed or aerated. In fact it really is the perfect covering for those looking to enjoy their outside space, rather than spend time working on it. Having said that it does need a a certain amount of care, although minimal. With this in mind, let’s take a look at what you need to do to keep your artificial grass looking in tip top condition.

Keeping it clear

Similarly to real grass your artificial lawn or outside space is likely to be invaded with debris such as falling leaves from time to time. This being the case you’ll need to keep it clear. Depending upon the amount of garden debris you get will depend on whether you want to use a simple rake and broom, or invest in a leaf blower or vacuum.

More and more people are discovering the benefits that a wooden garden building can bring. Not only is a well designed garden building an attractive environmentally friendly feature but it can be incredibly useful. In fact, once you’ve installed a garden building you’ll find yourself wondering how you ever managed without it.

Garden buildings can serve as additional room, solve your storage problems, and even add value to your property. So without further ado, let’s take a look at the many benefits of garden buildings, and why they make such a good investment.

Creating extra space

The house that once was the ideal size for you as a family may now seem rather cramped as your children grow and want to invite friends round, or need space to do their hobbies. A log cabin, summer house, or workshop can become a playroom for the youngsters, a den for teenagers, a home office or even a games and hobbies room. Alternatively, you may prefer to use it as your own personal retreat where you can sit and read a book or listen to some music. In short, it gives you, your partner, or your children, a safe place away from the house to disappear to.

Teak garden furniture and wooden decking by Crinklecrankle.com

Getting your garden furniture right is an important part of making your garden a place that you want to spend time. Having uncomfortable or ugly furniture can make you reluctant to relax and enjoy your garden, or make you embarrassed to bring people out into the garden. The furniture you choose can have an effect on the way that your garden feels and looks too, depending on the colour, material and style you go for.

What Do You Need?

Consider what you want out of your garden furniture, do you want to be able to hold dinner parties outside? Or do you just want to lie out and enjoy the sun? How many people will use it?

You should also make sure that you know how much space you have so you don’t buy something too big for your garden.

How to Grow Beautiful Plants in a Conservatory

Cacti at Princess of Wales Concervatory by Suviko

Conservatories have long had a bad rap in the gardening world. Caught somewhere between a greenhouse and an extension, they have a reputation for being the refuge of the passive gardeners who like the idea of getting up close to nature but aren’t so keen to get personal.

What many people may not realise, however, is that conservatories can offer innumerable benefits to green fingered gardeners who are struggling to cope with the erratic behaviour of UK weather. Not only do they allow us to get some outdoor time without running the risk of being caught in a torrential downpour, they also allow us to grow plants which might not have survived being planted outside, but which aren’t suitable for a greenhouse. If you’re looking for conservatories Lancashire is home to several great providers, including the Lytham Window Company.

Liquid Fence, a great product to protect plants from deer and rabbits

Readers know that ThisGardenLady relies on a product called Liquid Fence to protect my plants from the deer and rabbits who either live on my property or visit frequently.    TheGardenLady does not get any money from telling people that I use this product. However, if I find a product that works for me, I want others to know about it.

But what happens if a product you love comes in a container that doesn’t work? If you bought Liquid Fence recently,  you might have been as frustrated as I recently was with the nozzle. The nozzle did not allow the Liquid Fence to spray onto the plants. Presently my garden looks beautiful because it is loaded with late summer blooming flowers, flowers that are delectable especially to deer. I sprayed it recently, so I know nothing will eat the plants now.   My concern was how long these flowers will last if I cannot spray them again soon.

How to test your soil at home

Smartleaf Compost pH Test Results shows 7 by Wayan Vota

How to test your soil at home has been written on behalf of The Garden Lady by Mr McGregor, a popular Notcutts gardening writer.

It’s extremely important to discover the type of soil you’re working with in the garden as it determines what flowers you can and cannot grow. As soon as I moved into my home in the countryside I went straight outside and conducted a soil test. If you have a desire to create a beautiful outdoor space or have just moved home, I implore you to test your soil. It’s quick, easy and once you know there will be no stopping you when it comes to creating the garden of your dreams.

There are many methods you can use to test your soil and below you’ll find two of my favourites. One is very simple, but can be only used to test alkaline and acidic soils, whereas the other takes a bit more time and effort, but offers a wider range of results.
